 Tethering your phone as an alternative to caravan and motorhome wifi

The cost of purchasing new WiFi units for your motorhome can be expensive if you’re only planning to travel for several weeks of the year. Purchasing motorhome, caravan and camping WiFi units can also be a hassle! However, if you’re only planning trips away for up to a month a year, it’d be considerably cheaper to use your phones WiFi and this was the advice I gave to a member of the Facebook group that reached out and asked me. Using your phone to connect a laptop, tablet or even another phone to the internet is referred to as tethering. You can either use Bluetooth, USB cable or your WiFi hotspot to connect your phone to another device. Disclaimer: This will eat into your mobile data. Please keep and eye on it.

How do I tether using my Android phone?

Step #1

Open your phone menu and navigate towards your Network & Internet settings.

Step #2

Tap on “Tethering & Mobile Hotspot”.

Step #3

Turn on tethering by pressing “Mobile Hotspot”

Step #4

Set up your motorhome WiFi hotspot by giving it a name. The default will be your phone name.

Step #5

Secure your mobile hotspot with a password.

How do I tether using my iPhone?

Step #1

Open your iPhone settings and mobile data.

Step #2

Set your WiFi password so other devices can connect.

Step #3

Switch on your personal hotspot.

You’re now ready to connect your devices to your personal hotspot.
